How should I set up my document?

Last Updated: Jan 17, 2014 10:40AM CET

For images, you should take into account aspect ratio, size and resolution (considering the right size, it should always be over 150 DPI). For multi-page documents, it's slightly more complicated. In general: don't worry about bleeds or spine - we will generate that for you.

Rules for bookalikes

There are a few simple rules for anything that resembles a book, like magazines, paperbacks or hardcover books.

  1. The first page of your PDF is on the front cover.
  2. The second page always starts on the first available left page of the content.
  3. If your last page is a left page, we will put it on the back cover.
  4. If your last page is a right page, it will be the last right page of the contents and your back cover will be white.
  5. Recommended color profile: RGB
This translates to specific bookalikes as follows.

Hardcover books

The accepted file type is PDF, but there are a few other rules.

  • The first page will be put on the front cover.
  • The second page will be on the first left page in the book!
  • The inside of the back cover will be white.
  • If there is a odd number of pages the back cover will be white, the last page will be inside the book.
  • Recommended color profile: RGB

Glossy paperbacks and magazines

The accepted file type is PDF.

  • The first page will be put on the front cover.
  • The second page will be on the inside of the front cover.
  • The page before the last page will be put on the inside of the back cover (even number of pages in the PDF) or the back cover will be white (odd number of pages in the PDF)
  • Recommended color profile: RGB
